ABU 66 Cardinal - bail arm / spring issue

Post by Sion »

I recently replaced the bail arm spring (part no. 8621) for my ABU Cardinal 66 reel .

However, the bail arm no longer springs back after pulled into position when wound.

The supplier (who I trust) assures me that I have the correct part for my reel but it does appear to be noticeably larger than the spring on the other side. Also, it does not fit exactly into its housing.

I am certain that I have the correct spring for the side of the reel, as it fits into the slot and coils in right direction.

In the pictures below, I have tried to illustrate how the spring is still visible from its housing when the screw is tightened as far as it will go.

The bail holds back in position and reels back smoothly.

Could anyone please advise.

Thanks

Sion

My guess is that that is in fact the wrong spring and it is becoming coilbound when the screw is tightened. If you loosen the screw it might work, but it can't be used like that...it just shows the spring is too big.

I've only worked on one 66 and it had two bail arm springs, one on each side.
