How to build up the spool on a Speedia

Post by Lovatt »

Hello guys,

Can you help me, a friend of mine has asked how to build up the spool on a Speedia center pin reel with cork essentially he wants to buld the spool up a little to make it a shallower drum, I hope you understand this and I look forward to a message.

Kind regards Trefor

Old car owners never die....they just rust away

Two rounds of 1/8th inch cork sheet ( 3mm), each butted to one another with glue will see the arbour rise substantially and the arbour become practically circular. Cut them just a tad over-width and they will never move. The cork shows through the port holes, but a dab of black paint and they are barely noticeable.....

If Macman ever produces more 3D printed arbour sets get in quick...they were perfect!

If your happy with gaffer tape the cork mod can be up and running in a few minutes. Crude but effective. I'd only do it if trotting. I use mine on lakes, the deep arbour is an advantage in windy conditions and fast retrieve is not an issue.

Ps: maybe better for learning Wallis casting too? ( I tried it with a match aerial the other day. Me with both reels was unsuccessful but got a distinct feeling the smaller arbour of the Speedia was more forgiving?)

You just need the software and it can be produced anywhere. Hopefully in black.

I agree the deep arbour on a speedia is in my opinion a very positive advantage. And at all costs should be retained.

He actually posted the program as a document here some years ago but I couldn't make it open myself...but then I don't have a 3D printer anyway....
