Paint removal

Post by Jeremy Croxall »

Hi chaps.
Any thoughts on paint removal from reels?
How best to achieve this prior to painting and any recommendations for a suitable etching primer would be appreciated.
Many thanks.
Jeremy.

Detol.
I have used the advice shown here to great effect.

The coiled line travels from the reel, it brings up at last, the hook goes home, and then begins the test of skill. "BB"

Not sure if it would work on a Mitchell as they have primers..... you never know....

Was reading a post on this subject yesterday. I think it was under Mitchell reels.

Thanks guys, I would never in a million years have thought that you could use Dettol as a paint stripper....unbelievable!
I'll get down to Wilcos in the morning so I can further my reel restoration project.
I have done the servicing bit but now I must push ahead with the cosmetics.....are you reading this Mick?
My thanks and regards to all respondants.

Make sure you get the full strength brown stuff rather than the green :Hat:

Yes Jeremy, I'm reading it. I believe if you look under Speedia reels you will find a post about paint stripping using Dettol. The resulting pictures are amazing! Glad to hear you are progressing well with the restoration.
