NOS (new old stock) Mitchell 308 main drive gear and bearing available - Closed order

Post by OldTackle »

Hi chaps,

a few ultra-rare items - spares - for the Mitchell 308 turned up and I wonder if we shouldn't collect and get them. Per unit it is a NOS main drive gear and the bearing package. They are addressed with the year of manufacture as there are reels with brass main drive gear and those of aluminum. I think it would be best to check your serial number for the reel's year. These spares are coming from Italy so to collect and share postage costs might be a good idea. Please get in contact with me if you are interested. I'd offer to take and collect the orders (and money of course) and will send them over to one of you in the UK to send them further to the purchaser.

brass main drive: part # 82807 + 82793 declared for Mitchell 358 and 408 (year: 1978) but they are straight cut so may have a different gear ratio (4 available) 27€ p.p.

aluminum main drive: Mitchell 308 (1969/71) 81303 + 81311 (3 available) 25€ p.p.

aluminum main drive: Mitchell 308 (1976/78) 82424 + 81311 (6 available) 25€ p.p.

Can anyone tell the difference between part 81303 and 82424 ??

Just found the Mitchell reel Museum page is still affected by Malware so we can't check for serial number / year of manufacture. But as each unit contains of the main drive gear AND bearing there shouldn't be a problem. These are expensive items but I guess and maybe Nobby agrees here these spares are about to be the last ones in time.

:Hat:

Edit: you can see the Mitchell parts here named Garcia Mitchell 308 so guess these are the newer versions in need of 81303:

and here with part 82424 (guess these are the older versions?)

Please note: part 81303 has a knurled nut to fix the rotor while 82424 has a brass nut so a check with your reel may shed some light on which one you'd need.

There is even complete new bails arms available complete with screws, line roller and spring
Mitchell 308 (5 units)
Mitchell 408 (5 units)
Mitchell 309/409 (1 unit)
Trip lever 308, 308A, 358, 408, 508 part # 81296 (5 available)
Mitchell 350 400 410 440 pinion gear part # 81090 (10 available)
Mitchell 308A 309A (79-81-83-84) 408 409 (1978) 358 (1978) part # 82807 (9 available)
also the Mitchell drive gear only part # 81311 (8 available)

Once again chaps. Get in contact also if you need something else specific. There are a lot more of rare Mitchell items (axles, washers, line rollers and so on and so on). Postage is 10€ on each item so it's better to collect. I do not have any relation with the seller and will only charge the item's price plus shared postage.

The idea is to tell me which part you need (I will accept PayPal) and I will place the order on top of mine. I will then organize the parts in envelope's per address, pack them into a box and send them over to one of you in the UK. UK postage costs will have to be organized differently. I hope there is any longterm TFF member offering to help out on this?

Can anyone tell the difference between part 81303 and 82424 ??

Both types will fit the 308/309 reels (but I'm not sure if they fit the 308a reels)

The one with the knurled nut 81303 is the early version and needs adjusting before use. There is also a "D" holed washer part No 81302 which goes between the assembly and rotor.

The one with the hex nut 82424 is factory set and requires no adjusting before fitting and the washer 81302 is no longer used.. This item was brought out in 1976 to make replacement easier for Mitchell repair centres.

Wal.
