Hi all,
I wanted a smaller reel to use for Drop shotting and small river work on a 5 ft cane rod so I bought a Mitchell 206 from the 'bay.
It was in good nick and worked well, but while I was using it, the bail arm went "funny", it didn't set level and went over too far.
Being new to these reels I thought something must have dropped off, so I bought another cheaper one for spares. The problem is that it had the same issue.
Looking at the schematics I now know that they both have broken bail stops (something I didn't know existed)
Does anyone know if these can be sourced, or have any ideas on fixing them?
Or alternatively will it make much difference if I don't fix it? (I'd rather fix it, as it looks odd!)
Thanks in advance for your help.
Mark

Re: Mitchell 206 bail stops
Do you mean the bail bumper, Mark?
The 206 is notorious for this part breaking.
I believe I read some time ago that Nobby makes replacement bumpers for his Mitchells but I could be wrong about that. You can probably source them online.
A lower than expected bail arm can cause all manor of problems including bad line lay, parts brushing against each other etc so probably advisable to get it fixed.
Hope I'm reading you correctly.

Re: Mitchell 206 bail stops
Hi Russ,
yes I'm sure you are reading me correctly.
The part no is 82215, it is a small part that is screwed to the wide side of the bail arm just below where the bail wire/roller screws in.
I didn't know it existed till last night, and then I saw it referred to as a bail stop.
I had figured it was a bad thing, so I will need to have a bodge around with some washers and O rings to see if I can fettle it.
Otherwise there maybe a couple of 206's available for spares or repair :-)#

Yes, that's the part I was thinking of.
Jim's reel shop sells a reproduction of this bumper although it's not cheap at around £10.00.

Thanks Russ....
£10 is more than both reels cost together ... Ill get my bits and pieces box out tonight and see if I can fettle something.

Mark, did you manage to sort your 206? I’ve got the same issue with mine and was looking for inspiration and brilliance!

Re: Mitchell 206 bail stops
i'd think a nice cut piece of cork could be glued in place .the plastic ones become contaminated and go brittle and snap, old cork is quite firm but can still be cut too shape and oil/grease wont affect it .plus its easily changed ,dob of hot melt glue is all that's needed to hold it .
