Restoring a Allcocks Popular 4''

Post by Evert van der Plas »

I bought this reel with the attention it did have some problems with the line pillars and a wobble coursed by the bend line pillars.
i simply used pliers and a piece of brass that fist precisely between the two rings and bring the pillars back in shape

a simple job but with care, the reel is ready to use a gain

Oh, that's clever Evert.
Is the brass used as a measure or to wedge the two faces apart pulling the pillars straight?
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

For Both, the distance must be the same, and pulling the pillars straight with the pliers, if the metal plate fits well you can lay it also on the sides from the pillars to see if it is straight

That's both brilliant and simple Evert. Thanks for sharing.
