I would be keen to hear of anyones experience of using an ultrasonic bath for cleaning reels ? Or indeed any thoughts on the subject ? I've notice some are available for a quite reasonable price .

I bought one for exactly that purpose. In my opinion it's the best tool to re-use bearings.

I bought an 'Aldi special offer' one a few years ago ... and once you've found the water temperature/detergent solution mix that works for you ... they are invaluable ... not just for reel parts, but clogged up old fountain pens, air rifle pellets, small motorcycle parts, etc.

We used to use them many many years ago during my apprentiship to clean Rotring draughting ink pens, they worked very well. I know that they are also used for cleaning jewelry.

I don't know if this qualifies as an "Ultrasonic Bath" post, but because of my poor hearing, I failed to hear my wife calling out that my bath was ready and it overflowed! :Chuckle:

I have been looking at these myself for cleaning various bits including reel parts. There seems to be a few cheaper ones around for about £30. I may well treat myself this weekend

Same as for cleaning an airbrush for instance.
