Restoring Smith & wall .... Wreck :-)
I bought this Smith & wall reel not be course it is a nice reel but to try to save it, the reel is in a very sad condition just the way i love them to work on but sometimes the problems are too much on some parts that replacement is the only way to make it work again.
The brass parts can be cleaned the back plate as well but the front plate has rotten on the spot where the handles where placed with the iron pins in the wood, when iron starts to rust it expands and wood will crack when that happens. i have two options, a oak replacement front plate or Tufnol plate. i choose for Tufnol be course the mahogany that is on the reel now does not match with oak i think. black tufnol is very strong and give a reel a classic look that i love. it will be take some time before this reel is finished but try to post a few pictures now and then

Looking good already Evert I like that black Tufnol, I thought it only came in brown.

I just know that this is going to become an ourageously beautiful reel.

Evert, that black Tufnol front plate is real class. It's going to look fantastic when finished.

Almost finished, need a few knobs and a little adjustment to make it usable again
