Post by CafeRacer »

Has anyone(Paddex :Thumb: ) got any pics and info on DAM match reels from 1970-1990?

I'm not sure if they ever marketed a reel as a special "Match" reel,
however they called a closed face reel "Die Fangmaschine", '80s or '90s
I'll have a look into my catalogues (tomorrow)

Thanks,I remember seeing some very nice DAM reels that some Dutch anglers used at a King of Clubs match in the mid 80s.

sorry for a late answer, CF,
but I had to dig in my boxes for my DAM CFA closed face reel,
it was used for match fishing as other closed face reels, but I think it was never popular in Germany
I could not find more infos, so I don't know the manufacturing dates, maybe mid 80s-mid 90s?
An interesting feature is the changing from left hand to right hand wind:
you push a button and turn the whole rear part of the reel
Des Taylor is using it for roach fishing in this video and he gives a short explanation about the reel from minute 6,
he calls it the "coffee grinder", DAM called it the "catching machine"

I have one Paddex, and one of the best closed face reels made, way ahead of its time.Nice wide spool and acceptable line lay(for a closed face :) )meant that it could be used for longer range float work.
