Today this little reel has arrived.
It's a very simple "Grundrolle" - bottom reel built between 1954 and 1964.
The moving parts show some wear, so I guess it has been used a lot.
I cleaned it a little bit and put some oil on it.
The ratchet works fine and the reel is spinnig alright but there's a lot of wobble due to the worn out arbour on the handle side of the reel.
I'm going to use it on a bleak rod as a kind of line storage device.
At the moment the rod looks like that - but that's another story ...

Re: DAM Effzett 495
Today I put some line on the reel. I'll have to try it on the river, but I think it will be possible to cast directly off the reel as with a multiplier. There will be some birds nests of course!
The oil can belonged to my late grandmother-in-law.
As for the sticks, Paul, I've cut them a week ago next to a neighbour's garden (the bamboo starts to grow pretty much everywhere). I removed the leaves and cut the two sticks in three parts each. Now all I can do is wait untli it's dry. I'm going to try to built at least one usable rod for bleak fishing. I won't start before christmas though ...

The wobbling at the arbour is a common problem.Mine has it,too..Your reel is a MK II.There was a pre war one with a sunbeam milling on the sideplates.
