A very interesting reel, unusual spin off from the usual closed face versions, not seen one before well done!

That's the weirdest looking reel I've ever seen......I really like it!!

Are you going to use this reel? I'd like to know, whether it really works ...

Interesting, the reel body looks like a Milwards Swimaster reel and the ribbed foot is pure Ambidex. I wonder who made them?
I have found one on eBay, listed and badged as as a Swimaster and the listing mentions Eric Williams.

I also spotted the Milwards Swimaster Nobby is referring to Lee. I think there was another on Fleabay last year which the seller thought was a prototype.
The big question is, does it work? Look a tad Heath Robinson to me!

Basically a Milwards Swimmaster with a big friction drag wheel on it - bear in mind the actual "Milwards Swimmaster" also has a friction drag flange on the handle collar - much smaller of course but same principle. Which came first I wonder, I would guess this one. Great reel, thanks for sharing.

Does it work? Of course not otherwise we'd all be using them. Great bit of design though, can't imagine anybody producing something so radical nowadays.

Hmmmm! Even if it did work, it's so clunky looking, I'm certain that I'd stick to my ABU506 and my Speedia! One of the many things which first attracted me to vintage rods and reels is that, in my opinion at least, they are aesthetically more pleasing and feel "right" in my hands when compared to modern kit - I suspect that this is neither! Age and craftmanship is no guarantee of this type of quality.
