I have that particular gazette in my collection of newspapers from various times. I bought that one at a fishing fair. The advertisements and answers to correspondents are interesting too.
I wasn’t aware, for example, that the great Colonel Hawker ( of early 19th century shooting fame), also made, or more likely gave his name to, tackle “For spinning the natural minnow.”

Allcock, Laight & Co. became Allcock, Laight & Westwood. Whilst researching them I found an unsolved murder mystery! I say 'unsolved' but it seems clear who dunnit......

Just come across your Gazette,I have another of Mr Allcock pictured in full fishing regalia,in the article it states rather curiously that he was not really a fisherman.
