Just had to show you this net.

Post by Wallys-Cast »

I bought a couple of old sea rods along with a vintage net and two old reels. The item I really wanted was the net as it looked real quality but as luck would have it one of the reels has turned out to be quite interesting too.
Well it arrived today and wow look at the quality of workmanship in the brass fitting. It slides together on a dovetail, creating a very strong but neat joint. Someone has put a lot of thought and effort into this but surprisingly there is no makers name that I can see. Proper Victorian looking creativity I think.

The wooden limbs are perfect too, only small at 18 inches long but beautifully shaped and in excellent order. It will be a great roach net and one I will treasure.

Wal.

I saw that but only once it had finished, you got a nice bit of kit there Wal.
Really nicely made you would have thought someone would have been proud enough with that to put a name on it? :Hat:

There are three things that improve with age: wine, friendship and water sense, and there's no short cut.

There is some great workmanship in that Net! As you say the reels look interesting to, is the wooden one strapback or a starback?
You had a great buy there either way.

I was watching that one to Wal.
Now I've seen your pictures I wish I'd had a bid!

You've done well there!
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

Cracking Wal, the spreader is some quality engineering, especially for the period it was produced, what wood do you think the arms are made from?

Has to be more than a one off surely? Hope someone has an educated guess at how the metalwork was done. Wonderful acquisition that man! If the vender had been a bit more canny with the pics he would have had I few more bidders I think. Again brilliant punt...

Well done Wal, that is a lovely net, wood looks in nice condition, wonder if that's original? :Hat:
