Landing nets made from cycle wheels were common at one time, I even made one myself. The net was home made, this was before the time of knotless mesh and were easy to make. Large nets were not available and the only answer was to make your own. The same was true of a lot of tackle and it was great fun making your own even though it was born out of necessity.
