Please search sheds for brass spreader blocks!

This is probably the mother-of-all-stabs-in-the dark but...

I'm in the process of making my own net along the mr crabtree lines. I've got the skills to make the handle and form the ash head but the spreader block is the issue.

Would anyone have a brass spreader block knocking around that I could purchase for a reasonable price (but not including the item on ebay for £555 )

If not I will get one turned and brazed but its likely to cost a fortune, hence plan A above

I think I may have to resort to the hardwood option but my pipedream is a brass one.

I'm told that brass eventually became unpopular due to its tendency to work-harden and become brittle with age.

One seller of traditional nets and the like uses modern ones painted in brass coloured paint, perhaps for that reason.

Very nice. Of course I love all your vintage gear but I also like your little tripod. Are they readily available? I know so little about modern tackle I haven't a clue when it comes to stuff like this.
