I would call it a "scoop net," the sort of net to use when trout fishing when standing in the river when a long handle isn't needed.
"Beside the water I discovered (or maybe rediscovered) the quiet. The sort of quiet that allows one to be woven into the tapestry of nature instead of merely standing next to it." Estaban.

Looks like a trout net or a tennis racket , hope your using a short rod cos you will have a devil of a job using it to land a fish with a long one . Kindest regards . Woolly Bear . Unless you have got long arms

A Tennis racket????
Ok, I se what you mean Woolly Bear.
Well, where I am thinking of using the net, is in small rivers, where I am standing a lot in the river.
But, yes, you got a point, my arms are not THAT long, and I use a 10ft rod....Maybe a looong racket is needed.

This is a Raquette net very popular here in France for fishing while wading the stream.
The ring in the end of the handle is for attaching a concertina cord which has a split magnet at the other end. One half of the split magnet attaches to the ring on the back of the wading vest. It's an excellent system for bush fishing which I use myself.
A selection of these nets is offered by mail order company Mouches de Charette who have an online shop at http://www.mouchesdecharette.com email mouchesdecharette@wanadoo.fr tel: (33) 04 74 24 22 73
