Amber lined rings

Post by SharkBoy » Fri Sep 14, 2018 9:45 am

Hi guys picked up a new rod which a slight problem the amber but ring has a hairline crack in it and a slight chip on the top of the amber lining .. the crack is it the horizontal position “9 o’clock” so away from where the line travels .. I know I could get it completely replaced but is there a glue or resin that dries clear that could be used to fill in the chip to stop it spreading? Look forward to any replies 👍

Glass companies use a light active glue to stick bevels onto flat glass, it would be perfect for your job. Try taking the rod to a local double glazing manufacturers and ask them to give it a dab of glue and few seconds under the ultra violet lamp. Or you could buy the UV active glue of course.

Hi Wal would that be the same glue nail bars use to stick false nails on the ladies ... that uses UV light to cure?

I wish I could show you a film off line going through a butt ring from a fixed spool reel on the cast...I know there is one out there somewhere.

The line 'barrels' out from the spool and touches all of the but ring lining...as well as the rod shaft.

I think I'd be inclined to whip on a new one.

Not sure Steve but the stuff they use on glass dries clear and as hard as glass and a drop of it is really difficult to remove from glass.

Nobby is right though a replacement would be a better choice if you can find one.
