What a cracking pair!
As stated the provenance on the second pole is brilliant to have. Time for one of those ancestry type sites?
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

Update;

Monument Street ,right next to the original Billingsgate Fish Market..

Billingsgate Market - H. M. Swain 2s token

Image

H.M.Swain might have been Fish wholesalers at Billingsgate market.

Fish wholesalers at Billingsgate market paid porters for their work with tokens marked with a specific cash value. At the end of the day, porters would cash in the tokens to receive their daily wage. Such practice was common throughout London's wholesale markets where porters were employed as casual labourers rather than salaried staff.

What a super couple of poles! The last time I saw a Sowerbutts Pole it was under Dick Walkers hut on the Ouse. Dick kept it stored underneath the hut and anyone who stayed there was free to use it, I never did I was too afraid of damaging it!
