Dennis Pye 700 help

Post by Keston » Wed Nov 15, 2017 4:28 pm

So I took a chance on a Chapman's Dennis Pye 700 .
It looks very original but has some flaws . The tip ring is worse than it looked in the images and very rusted but I figure I can find one to replace it . I was intending to doba total refurb but now I think I could replace the tip and just use it for a few years .
My question is there was a patch of varnish missing on the butt section . It turns out there is alsoba very small amount of wood chipped away. It's not at all deep and there's no splitting or anything when flexed. I feel the rod is strong enough even with this flaw. I wonder though if J should treat it at all before varnish is applied ? Glue ? Glue & shavings ? Epoxy?
Any thoughts appreciated.

Ps if anyone has a tip ring for sale please do get in touch

get some gorilla glue ,rub it into the area within the chip ,rub in good maybe more than one coating ,(it won't /shouldn't foam up) when it goes off .it'll seal and harden giving a tuff surface layer .leave plenty of drying time .

the glue as it dries laminates the exposed fibres and is waterproof and seals around the edges to prevent further splitting whilst remaining a degree of flexability.
I try to be funny... but sometimes I merely look it! Steve
