That rod looks already awesome, Steve. Very nice work. Looking forward to seeing the finished rod. Bobby

Thanks for the kind comments gents - I tested some thinned varnish on one of the ferrule wraps yesterday and found a couple of small patches of bleed through, so that wrap will need re-doing and it will all get a couple more coats of acrylic before trying again... which means more drying time, sigh.

So... I re-did the affected wrap and re-sealed it. Tunnels at the feet of the rings were also sealed (prevents varnish being drawn up under the wraps) then each wrap was given a thin coat of polyurethane yacht varnish. Once that was dried it had a couple of coats of poured varnish - here is the result to date.

I will leave this to harden off a bit before sanding out a couple of flecks of dust and giving the whole thing a few more coats of finish.

So far - so good :Thumb:

Cheers
Steve

fabulous workmanship............. I don't think I will be able to find the words to do it justice once finished!

Another example of the talented fellows sharing their work and advice on this fine forum.

Looking forward to the next post.

Beautiful job - the varnish really highlights that lovely combination of thread colours
