Chapman 500 rebuild

Post by Shed_Monkey » Tue Dec 26, 2017 11:13 am

Back in the summer break I made up a couple of Chapman 500 tips as I have a rod in need of a rebuild and PaulF has a rod in a similar position. I have finally managed to get around to spending some time building mine up and finished whipping the guides on yesterday and sealing the threads with some dilute acrylic varnish. The next step will be to begin filling the valleys in the threads with thinned varnish to smooth them out before pouring several coats of varnish on the sections - hopefully a job I can get done before going back to work in the New Year. I have used the 550 ringing pattern but used a smaller butt ring to compliment the lighter nature of the 500.

Here is the progress so far - I have gone with a maroon thread which I rather like for the main color, tipped with a Champagne thread to echo the colour of the brass ferrules.

Cheers
Steve
