Best way to clean old (black) rod rings?

Post by Tengisgol » Sat Dec 01, 2018 8:56 pm

What I would like to do is drop these in something (meths, paraffin, thinners etc.) and it clean off the old dirt and varnish (instead of scrubbing them).

Any ideas what would be best? Thanks.

Cellulose thinners will desolve all the old varnish, another solvent called Acetone works well but you could find it difficult to acquire that unless you could get it from a chemist. Reelmaker

I buy nail varnish remover which is Acetone, you can normally get it at cheap shops like Poundland or B&M which is far cheaper than anywhere else.
I've also used it to take paint off old floats.

Forgot to say highly inflammable liquid so be careful where you use it.
