Unfortunately Justin, this has proved to be a rather problematic area for many when trying to replicate a decal - it has been aired on the forum before without a successful conclusion. I personally do not know anyone who has managed to reproduce the B James logo as a decal along with the accompanying typeface and Dicks signature. I have seen a couple of restored rods with handwritten content and as good as they were - not like the original.
If you manage to overcome the hurdle please let me know. Good luck in your quest.

Personally I think sticking "homemade decals" on a rod devalue those on an original rod.

They could and have been used to fraudulently increase the value of rods and their heritage.

aye problem being the rods original decals are really in a bad way but the whippings and handle etc are really nice.

And, at least your friend obviously has some original label left, that is part of its history and shows its originality. I would leave as is.
