Goldendales

Post by Olly » Wed Jan 02, 2019 2:15 pm

I took two of my three Goldendales to be restored by Wal in October whilst on a family visit to Northumberland.

A 2 section rod with a t/c of about 1lb - the same as a B J Walker's Avon. It has the "Aspindale" sliding screw winch on the handle with obligatory notches.

Also a strange beast - a 3 equal section rod with a t/c about 2lb. More powerful than a Chapman 550. It has spiked ferrules possibly predating my others. The sliding screw winch is not notched and bears the words "PAT APPD FOR". The handle is much shorter than the others at 21in.

My other Goldendale - a two joint carp version - has a t/c exactly the same as a 550.

Anyway Wal let me know, before I went to Northumberland for Xmas, that both were ready to be collected. So a trip to the Hartlepool area over the Xmas holidays saw me meet up with Wal.

He has done an excellent job and they are now back with the original whipping colours looking "as new".

Many thanks Wal - Happy New Year! :Hat:

Will we be treated to some photos Olly? I love to see Wals work, so inspirational! :Hat:

I have tried pictures for this Forum without success! (See Ray Mumfords floats.)

I am sure however Wal has a couple at least of them to show! Please Wal!

I didn't take any of them fully finished Adrian but here are a few before and afters. They only have one coat of varnish on them in these pics so the end result doesn't show the true colours.

Two piece after stripping, cleaning and rewhipping.
