Rod and Line, by Arthur Ransome , with Michael Horden
Bought this recently , could remember it from the 80s, then shown on TV.
At the time it had a big impact on my angling , showing me that Match style fishing did not have a monoply on course fishing, both methods and styles.
Watching Michael Horden fish for carp with a cane rod left a positive impression on me , that made me want to fish that way , even as a 16 year old, still does today.
Great stuff, mixed fishing and a good adaptation of the great book. Its got the feel as well as the prose. Id recommend it to all.

Thanks for reminding me of this one John, I too can remember it from the 80's. I've just purchased the DVD on amazon, I can't wait to watch it again.

A classic in many ways. Michael Hordern has a voice I could fall asleep to!
So what is this reel he is using?

Isn't that one of those Bakelite Allcocks reels the name of which escapes me even though I have one lying around here somewhere...

Yes, I thought it looked like an Aerialite, but thought that was possibly a bit downmarket.

The Bakelite "Aerialite" is the only reel I've seen in about eight years of flea-bay that has that T-bar nut.
What do Bakelite collectors use to bring the colour back to old Bakelite? - Not setting up a joke, just wondering... just in case one comes along...

I have one and use it for margin fishing. Not a lot of use for much else, but it is fairly robust. Just a wipe over with some vegetable oil brings up the shine but you can also use rubbing compound used for car paintwork. Not that I bother with either. I just put it back in its pouch when I have finished fishing.
