I think it is safe to say that most of us on here would have APFA as the number one angling film/TV but what would be your number 2? or do you have something you prefer to APFA?

For me my number 2 (and it is only just at number 2) would be Arthur Ransome's Rod and Line with Michael Horden.

I particularly like the episode where Mr Horden is fishing the lake district and things aren't going too well. We are then let into the world of the local chap who goes up the small becks with a worm and gets a bag full for the pot...

2nd would be Compleat Angler with Geoffrey Palmer and Rae Borras

I love Michael Hordern and Arthur Ransome but what spoils this series for me is the music. And it seems I am not alone if you look at the reviews for the DVD.

I like A River For All Seasons, Tom Williams (the video was Tom's River)

Chris Yates 'Caught In Time' is another one of my favourites.

I loved John Bailey and Paul Boote's 'Casting for Gold' film. Although Paul was selling a few copied DVD's a while back I don't think it has ever been readily available to purchase, nor indeed repeated on TV. It's an evocative, inspirational account of the quest for the legendary Mahseer and harks back to a bygone era. Wonderfully filmed, and sowed the seed of an, as yet, unfulfilled ambition of mine.

Caught in time is up there but for a really good watch for entertainment, variety, information and some very nice photography I thoroughly enjoyed The Great Rod Race with Matt Hayes and Mick Brown. I know this is not traditional fishing but the idea is inspirational and the results quite notable, it will stand the test of time and I would happily watch the entire series again.

I'd love to get hold of the original The Fishing Race where pairs of anglers vied for the coveted Golden Maggot award but alas it never made it to VHS let alone DVD.

Ollie Kite's (very) old footage always hypnotises and inspires me.

In reality not long ago but it seems such a long time back now. Even Jacko has hair! Some great people on there sadly no longer with us.

I'm with you on that one Mark. I really love it when he hooks that huge common which he can't stop and the clutch on that old reel just keeps screaming, and when he finally lands it and looks at it you can see how overjoyed he is - as would anyone, catching that immaculate 27lb common from Jade Lake.
