I came across the film on YouTube recently and thought it worth sharing with you fellas. I've watched it several times now.
The story, which is the catalyst for the film, is a fascinating one. The film maker, Rolf Nylinder, was fishing the remote River Lethe on New Zealand's South Island, back packing, roughing it, sleeping out. During his wanderings he comes across a cabin and inside discovers a hand written fishing journal from 1988 by a man called Lars Lenth which documents his own adventures on the River Lethe. Is it all true? Hard to say but the story is a good one.
The whole film is about 80 minutes and from what I can gather only available to view on DVD. On YouTube there are 3 selected chapters which are reenactments of happenings from Lars' journal, Lars being played by an actor. Beautifully shot and narrated, some marvelous scenery and spectacular fish and there's also some split cane.
Well worth a watch.

Excellent, A quality production.
Puts me in mind of your own style of fishing, Scott.

Cheers Russ. Yes, I suppose that's why it appeals so much. This'd be a dream trip for me but I'm afraid New Zealand would be a little too far to go. Being a teacher my main holidays are in the summer which of course is winter in New Zealand so I don't think this will ever happen. I think I'll just have to keep fit and go when I retire.

Nice outfit! Not talking about his 'waders' but do I spot a Sharpes impregnated and a Hardy fly reel? The featherweight perhaps?

Re: Only The River Knows.
Thanks Scott, I eventually sat down after a long evening hanging wallpaper and flicked the idiot box on. As usual there was little to catch my attention. All of those channels and nothing I fancied watching. Then I remembered your links from earlier in the day, so You Tube was selected, Only The River Knows was punched in and hey presto. I really enjoyed the three chapters on offer for free viewing.
Naturally after they were finished I started to scroll through a few other bits that were flagged up. I possibly watch as much You Tube on the TV as I do the actual TV programmes, yet hadn't come across these before. One link opens up so many more hours or viewing. I quite enjoyed this one and plenty of cane bending action too as well as a cane rod maker...

Very enjoyable. There's another excellent film of the rodmaker Bob Clay here: https://vimeo.com/19982291Shaun Harrison wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 10:52 am .... I quite enjoyed this one and plenty of cane bending action too as well as a cane rod maker...
