20 years to-day since A Passion for Angling was first Aired

Watched a good fishing film lately, why not talk about it in here.

Redmire Legends is my favourite episode but I love them all really.

My favourite bit has to be (as mentioned already) Chris and Bob jumping out of the tree at Redmire, classic! :Chuckle:

We had a sneak preview of that at one of the Carp Society shows. The whole auditorium was in an uproar when they leapt out of the tree. Not sure if we saw an early cut or what became the final product.

Shaun, I think CY might have shown the same 'sneak preview' at the NASA conference preceding the showing of the series on BBC. I think that was a mixture of 'final product' and other bits. Can't believe it was so long ago!

Thanks Garry, it could have been a N.A.S.A. one I saw it at. They all flow into one after a few years of attending them all. It would be impossible to attend all the shows these days. In fact I can be at some sort of angling do almost every week now, particularly so through the winter months.

Going back over 30 years we (Walkers of Trowell where I worked) used to arrange a angling film show each year next door bar a few houses at the Festival Inn. We used to totally sell out each year with people travelling miles. It was well supported and I remember Richard Walker, Jim Bruce, Ken Walker, Arthur Oglesby, Hugh Falkus, Tag Barnes, Pete Thomas, Bob Church, Allen Edwards, Clive Loveland, Steve Parton, Ian Heaps and the list goes on with many more greats of the time all coming over to support us as various old cine films were played and different talks and demonstrations showed.

I organised the very last one we did and by then I had the likes of Tim Paisley from the newly formed Carp Society along with several other 'names of the time' attending but you could see our film show nights were going to become numbered as the Carp Society and National Association of Specimen Groups soon to be re-named National Association of Specialist Anglers were all getting on with organising their own local meetings. Within a short time the angling meeting/talk and slide show scenario was such a common thing.

Fond memories and I now feel so privileged to have met quite a few of the respected anglers from so many different walks of life.

In the latter years we simply had open days at the shop with a few celebrities around the back on our casting pool demonstrating various things.

the one which always has me crying with laughter is the redmire one ,where they are up the tree and jump in and then chris waist deep turns round to bob and says "you said the water would only come up to the top of my wellys".
great fishing series ,if I remember the filming was a labour of love as it took over 4 years to film.i managed to get the series on dvd :Thumb:

Fishing up a tree seems to be a popular choice. My kids think it's hilarious too.
A reminder of the fun you can have in the increasingly serious world of angling
