Chub Superlite chair

Post by Haydn Clarke »

Ok, I know it's not Trad, and to be honest I don't care. When it comes to where I rest my derriere I like comfort. Wicker baskets and '70s fold up deck chairs you can keep.

So, has anyone used or seen this chair?

Now I know this aint the most comfortable and I've already got something that really is, when I know I'm going to be static fishing. I've got some tackle shop vouchers I need to use and fancy a mega-light chair for when roving. Just didn't want to part with them if it's as good as useless.

One last thing. Anyone know if the back legs can be left folded up for when fishing steep banks?

I've not seen or used one but I would advise you to possibly choose something that doesn't have arms. I've used a chair with arms and found they really got in the way but perhaps it's just me. There are those fold up versions where two straps between back and base support the back, they are dead light and not expensive but I can't find one quickly on line to show you what I mean.

I just crouch on my unhooking mat if I'm going really mobile. Rod, net and unhooking mat, that's it. My few bits and pieces are in my pockets including bait.

Can I ask what other chair you use as I need to buy a very comfortable chair for the coming season and it is one item of tackle that I don't mind how modern it is.

Probably be no good for you, Beresford, as it has arms. It's an old JRC relaxa reclina. It sits quite high off the ground very comfortable and the arms, even if you're not so keen, are an absolute must for me.

My brother had one and was not that impressed.

Aklthough lightweight and good for roving, it was not particularly sturdy. He is around 13 stone and the alumium legs bent after a few months. The arms also hindered casting. He now has a Nash Nomad and is generally pleased. It has a shoulder strap, a small back pocket and when carried folded will acondate a bait tin and a few bits a pieces. It also has adjustable legs so is suitable fo sloping banks or uneven ground. Quite tempted myself.

I highly recommend the JRC specialist x lite, adjustable legs, no arms, featherweight and fairly pleasing in appearance.

Got the chub. Really good but it fell to pieces after about three years if seriously heavy use!! Not that I'm moaning tho, it did the miles! The back legs do fold down as well.

I knew they folded down, I wasn't sure if you could use the seat with them unfolded, as I do when using my JRC on steep inclines. Can you use the chair like this or does the chair need to be completely unfolded for the arms to come down?

I had a TF Gear chair for a while, it was sooooo heavy I have gone back to my trusty old folding deckchair.

I'd thoroughly recommend a Nash Nomad. I did a lot of research on chair weights a while back and the Nomad was the lightest 'proper' chair I could find. It folds flat, has 4 adjustable legs, an attached but removable carrying strap and its great on sloping banks because it can be used with the back legs unfolded. I've got one of the original ones that I bought second hand as they were discontinued for a while, but they're available again now and listed on ebay. The new ones seem to have some extra padding that adds some weight, but I think that can be taken off if you want to travel ultra light. Its not just a compromise roving chair, I use it for all my fishing and find its comfortable enough to sit in all day.

By no means Traditional this thread but, I guess the more elderly gentemen of our clan are tired of perching on a whicker basket, I know I couln't do it for any length of time. So one of these super cumfy new fangled contraptions does have a place.
