What is this lure please????

Post by Fredline »

Has anyone seen this 4" lure before or knows who made it? Any info. would be very much appreciated. I have had it for a while and lures are not my thing. Gold or rubbish? Fredline. Image Image Image Image
If you have no grease with you, and your rings are full of ice, do not cut out the ice with a pen-knife but get your man to put the rings one by one in his mouth, and so to thaw the ice.

A sand-eel imitation perhaps? But by who & when?

Never seen one like that and I can't see where the 'action' would come from? Interesting though.

Interesting looking thing, looks home-made, have you fished with it?.....

....given the shape, the swivel on the nose and the paddle on the tail, does it spin when retrieved?

Looks very interesting. Do you know what it's made from? Is it metal with a coil of some type of plastic??

It is a metal braid core with heavy duty mottled plastic wrapped the length of the lure. Unusual.

Has it lost the 'spinning' vanes at the head end? There are similar examples in "Fishing Tackle" by Graham Turner.

Gold :Thumb: The lure's spiral body and tail are made from celluloid. I'm 99% sure it will be by Percy Wadham who was making celluloid lures and floats (and 'Dreadnought' reels) in Newport I.O.W. from around 1919.

99.99% Percy Wadham.

The celluloid tape whipping on the hook and the black eye spots are identical on these Wadham's 'OK Gudgeon' from my collection.

Thanks for the heads up on that John. Lures are not my thing. I have had a look at some old tackle guides and this lure appears to have more in common with Percy W than the rest. Fredline.
