I would advise against any water based varnish for a float box. Better use Danish Oil which dries no problem in these conditions, especially if applied indoors.

..or a gunsmith to get a stock finishing kit??? Oiled walnut usually looks fabulous - if you use the red stuff very rich in the grain - add a hardener towards the end and you have the best of all worlds. Beauty, shine & hardness.. worth consideration, a little bit more effort but infinitely more rewarding.
