Unusual floats ?

Unusual floats ?
I have recently purchased a small amount of vintage tackle off the bay,but what intrigues me are these 2 floats 1 aluminium and 1 that appears to be paper ,can anyone shed some light on these please
I spend most of my life fishing the Rest i just waste

The aluminium one looks like a "Palmerfloat": viewtopic.php?t=4568
I don't theenk the other is a Zephyr, because I recall seeing a few paper bodied floats like it in Norf London shops, probably 1970s, but I'm not sure. A late model Zephyr would be nice!

Just googled palmerfloat and spotted the same float with cork rings around it,i also have these cork rings in the tackle purchased,any idea what they were for ?

I think the rings just increase the buoyancy, so you can use more shot. They weren't exactly streamlined, were they? Very odd, in view of the lines of the float. Nice find!

Certainly not streamlined but i think a good idea for the time

I think the Palmer Floats also came in a set with both lead weights and cork rings that could be added to the floats. Palmers were aluminium extruders and made float tubes to carry floats as well as a few other bits and bobs. A chap joined the Maggot Drowners forum a few years ago claiming to be the inventor but I don't think he stayed on there long.
