I use plastic "widgets" out of beer/lager cans. Screw in small brass eye in the bottom and hot melt glue a hair clip on the top. Attach to the bank stick with a cord and spring clip. They take a few minutes to make and can be painted. I also use these to make perch and pike floats in a similar fashion. "widgets" are probably traditional by now!
