A few people have looked at this very well made tin and have suggested various uses for it. A May fly tin, a worm container, even a hand warmer. So what do you think it was made for?
It is 2.5” x 4.5” x 1”, delicately curved to fit the pocket, with a sliding top and bottom lid covering 2 compartments. You can see the seam a third of the way up the tin which separates the 2 halves.There are no markings or any clue as to its use.
Any ideas?

The mayfly boxes I've seen in the W of Ireland where they do a lot of 'the live dap' have all been made of wood and much bigger

That to me looks like a jacket pocket handwarmer

Thanks Russ, the definitive answer. You put hot coal in the hand warmer and put the hand warmer in your pocket. It makes sense. H & S would have a field day with this in the present climate.

We still have charcoal hand warmers and one more dangerous as a TV presenter found out -- was his pipe!!
