Fishing thermometer?

The car boot sale threw up what I hope will be s nice handy tool for my winter fishing trips. But I wondered if it was originally intended for this purpose. Scaled if degrees f. Heavy and robust enough to give a decent chuck.
Any thoughts?

I think i remember my grandad having one of those in his greenhouse, im thinking back to the sixties so dont put money on my being correct...

Kindly give me due warning if you are proposing to use this on one of our fishing trips. Headline of angler pinned to tree by thermometer is not the way I wish to be remembered. :Hahaha:
