The Complete Book of River Fishing

Post by QuinetteCane »

by our own Len Arbery.
Just taken delivery of this book via AbeBooks today.
It is so picture heavy with lots of familiar faces from my favourite period of time.
2 hours in and have not started on the text yet.
One pic of electro fishing had me looking for my own image it looked so familiar,
Alas.. not one I had attended.
Highly recommended. Thank you Len.

Add:- Three times now I have found my hand is touching the page trying to
expand the picture. Note to self, Must Concentrate.

Just read this myself and the section on barbel giving small bites is fascinating.

I haven't read the book (I think I have a copy, somewhere...) but those delicate barbel bites are quite the norm where I fish, touch-legering. It's my belief that, in many rivers, fishing for the so-called 'three foot twitch' is probably not necessary and more pick ups can be converted into hooked barbel by holding the rod, pointing it at the bait and feeling for the bites. Barbel often give a series of twitches as the bait is mouthed before you feel a little tug to bend into. On many rods, left in the rest, they would barely register if the fish then managed to eject the bait at that point. Accepting it isn't possible to do that on every river or swim.
