The first fishing book I ever owned. My mum bought it for me when I was a nipper, and yes I still have it. I was actually taking about a caption to one of the photos this very morning! "Plump and silky, a memorable June caught tench" that's always stuck in my head, haha :)

Lovely little book I do love the observers books. When I was a kid the birds one and birds eggs were my bibles and very very worn.

I had the pleasure of meeting Peter Wheat at his home and having some books signed. That particular cover is the later edition, the first editions have a picture of an angler holding a Perch. Nice books. He also did the one ons on sea fishing and game fishing.

What a smashing book, I had a copy as a lad, it was the first fishing book I owned, bought for me by my lovely grandmother, and inscribed by her, for a birthday or Christmas I can't remember. It was in the pocket of my old fishing seat that got nicked from a mate's house some years ago, together with all my childhood gear! It's out there somewhere. So, if anyone has a copy if this book, with and inscription inside "to Jonathan from Nana Savory", let me know and maybe we can swap! Wow what a turn up that would be! :fish:
They waited for me, the whole river
Listened to me, and, blind,
Invisibly watched me. And held me deeper
With its blind, invisible hands.
“We’ve got him,” it whispered, “We’ve got him.”
