The Fisherman's Bedside Book by BB

Post by Mark »

The Fisherman's Bedside Book by BB.

I have the 3rd edition 1950, the pages are as thin as an old bible.

There are some good story's in here, one of my favourites being 'A Warwickshire Carp Pool' by Frank J. Barker which is about fishing at Swancoote Pool.

Love this book - a true classic which set the scene for so many books to follow. Including of course 'Confessions'

I picked up the 1st edition from the bookseller E. Chalmers Halham many years ago. No dust jacket and stamped 'Bodleian library Apr 30 1946' - I hope they don't want it back!

Printed on 27gms Bible paper due to War time paper shortage.

Stu will post the inscription written inside Dick's copy from his Mother Xmas '46 and passed to Maurice when 'Letters' was being compiled.

All the better for it. It feels lovely and makes the book compact so it fits in my pocket - I have even been known to sneak it into dull school chapel services!

Good thinking Snape, all I ever dared sneak in was gob stoppers and dolly mixtures.
