Can't disagree with that! A truly masterful read, as are most of his other works. However, he wasn't from the UK so I guess he didn't qualify for the list!

Evidently, he was American! Perhaps we can conclude that all the British great fishing writers are no longer with us, but still fishing in some far off celestial lake or river in the skies. For certainly, none of our current writers would been in my top 10. Yet, if only living writers were allowed, I would be inclined to add Yates but then would struggle to select any others.

Hemingway was definitely a major writer, but not a fishing writer as we say, but a writer who happened to fish and included it in some of his fiction and journalism.

I believe arthur ransome did a pamphlet on gishing writers in an old britishcouncil pamphlet

Yes , used to have the pamphlet by ransome.there is the fishing anthology put together by jeremy paxman ......includes a lot of good uk and us writers.
