Waterlog Magazine
Waterlog Magazine
I recently subscribed to this, Some of you will already know about it but wanted to share with anyone that isnt aware.
Some superb articles and ancedotes and not a product endorsement anywhere. Perfect for reading next to the fire place on a cold winters night. This would also make a perfect gift for other like minded anglers at christmas.

Waterlog magazine begat the Waterlog Forum which begat PurePiscator and its forum which begat TFF and PBTW.
You are wise in what you write PondPikey and may indeed inspire the few who have yet to find true enlightenment.
PS Just received my latest Waterlog.

Re: Waterlog Magazine
Is it up to the standards of old, Wayfarer? I have heard, repeatedly, that the first 30 or so were the best, with the following 20 being good and then the content quality diminishing after the format changeover at issue 51.

Re: Waterlog Magazine
I have just received my latest issue. I subscribed this year after a 6 or 7 year gap because for me it lost its spark so to speak. Sadly I don’t think I will be renewing my subscription for next year. Like Haydn the first 30 or so issues were the best, infact only last night I dug out the first 50 issues and started flicking through a few of them again, a lot of the articles I cant even remember reading, I’ll put that down to old age. :chuckle:

Re: Waterlog Magazine
I see you can still purchase back issues, number 1 being £10 and £6 thereafter, perhaps it would be better to treat oneself to an issue every couple of months rather than subscribe to the latest issues??

We are all active, articulate anglers, I think: and if Forum members feel that the magazine's standard is falling, why not support the magazine by submitting articles for consideration, to help bring the standard back up?

Re: Waterlog Magazine
I agree that it lost its original sparkle and fun.
I gave up after 50 issues but found it tailing off quite a while before that.
In truth thought it wasn't the same without Vernon the roach....

Re: Waterlog Magazine
My point is, can we be sniffy about a magazine that is still a good angling magazine in a field of general pap and dross? If we don't support the half-decent magazines, in one way or another, they will surely fold.

Re: Waterlog Magazine
That exactly what happened, Waterlog invited competent 'web authors' but to compare with the likes of Yates, Venebles, Profumo, Petley...the list goes on, Waterlog has become tired/lazy which was a real shame as I used to love receiving Waterlog especially during the colder months.farliesbirthday wrote:We are all active, articulate anglers, I think: and if Forum members feel that the magazine's standard is falling, why not support the magazine by submitting articles for consideration, to help bring the standard back up?
The suggestion from the Sweetcorn kid is a good one, go for the back issues, they are excellent! If I was asked to do Dessert Island Disks, which is very unlikely, my 'book' would be issues 1-50 of waterlog, if allowed?

Re: Waterlog Magazine
I still think Forum members should consider putting pen to paper. I've published one article with Waterlog, and have another pending, so I'm informed.. date still to be announced - and no, I would not compare myself with Yates, Profumo et al - I'm not trying to compete; I'm merely doing my best. So, let's assume the golden age is over, - golden ages always end - but the ages that follow them are not always unworthy of consideration and support.Tadpole wrote:That exactly what happened, Waterlog invited competent 'web authors' but to compare with the likes of Yates, Venebles, Profumo, Petley...the list goes on, Waterlog has become tired/lazy which was a real shame as I used to love receiving Waterlog especially during the colder months.farliesbirthday wrote:We are all active, articulate anglers, I think: and if Forum members feel that the magazine's standard is falling, why not support the magazine by submitting articles for consideration, to help bring the standard back up?
