New British carp Record perhaps....

Post by Skeff »

New record landed today... The Parrot at 68lb 1oz from the Wasing Estate. Scales still need to be checked but what a fish... Lovely if the record is now held by a lovely old linear.... I haven't taken any interest in the carp record in years but for some reason this capture has caught my imagination.

I hope it was an epic battle with 100yd runs rather than trying to coax a bag of cement into the landing net.

Amazing but when it was caught just over 2 years ago it only took 10 minutes to reel in!

It has a "parrot" mouth due in part to possible mishandling in it's youth! The mouth is like a parrot's beak- misshaped.

I will be interested in how long it took to land, as a rule with the rods used with high test curves plus giving the poor fish a few ounces of lead to tow about the fish do not as a rule take long to land and I think you can forget about long runs. Big is not always best unless that is the only thing you are concerned with. Give most modern anglers a MKIV and connect them to an 8lb Wildie with no lead on the line and I suspect that few fish would be landed.

Congratulations to the captor  :Hat: . Nice to see such a classic-looking, well-proportioned old linear mirror carp take the record. It could have been some overfed dumpling instead.
