For the love of Rudd.

As this Mole, yeah 'im, gets older certain fish seem to satisfy his fishing desires more than others. Obviously Roach will always be a favourite but Rudd are now a Summer fish that Fatty really looks forward to catching more and more :Hat:

When they get to a nice size there is something really pleasing about the chunkiness and feel of a good Rudd:

The Crimson fins, ever willingness to feed, cheeky up-turned mouth, some pure gold and others more silvery.......does anyone else feel like this about these beauties, or is it just the Mole?

Just as well there is a lake near to the Fortress that has a few in it then

As ever,..........

I totally agree Mr Mole Sir, there is no finer looking fish in British waters.

I also love catching rudd. There's a small population of them in the Thames and I sometimes catch one whilst trotting for roach. And only a few days ago whilst out walking with my son, we looked over a small bridge near a lock and saw quite a few of them mixed with a shoal of roach.

I totally agree with your sentiments about Rudd..

Although not a native fish to this part of the world, they have been successfully introduced to several small lakes and are an absolute pleasure to catch. The smaller ones always seem ready to oblige but the bigger ones can be unbelievably difficult to get near at times!

In our waters they are just pure red and gold all over and breathtakingly beautiful to behold..
Sometimes on late summer afternoons, I have stalked them through the lakeside reeds and caught one off the top with a dry fly...but if you miss the rise, there isn't often a second chance!

Yes, you are right...one of the most beautiful of our fish..

Lovely fish the rudd, the more golden the better. I was just this morning given a nod and a wink toward a fairly local pool with - allegedly - 2lb + rudd and 2lb + Crucians. There are a lot of king carp to get through but already my brain gears are mulling it over. Just hope I can get a ticket.

I have 3 waters teaming with rudd. All have done 3+lb fish in their time but I struggle to get a few over 1lb let alone 2lb! There are 1,000,000s of them plus a few roach. I love catching them whatever their size.

Donkey rides on the beach

Catching frogs and newts from the canal

Ice cream 99 cones with the chocolate flake in them

Short pants and scabs on knees the size of half crowns.

First proper fish angled for - perch or roach

First sight of a golden fish with vermillion fins - instant hero worship from ones peers as you become famous in your small world.

50 years later just this week -
