I much prefer catching chub on ultra-lite lures such as mini-Rapalas. They always take then very aggressively with a big thud!!! And the big ones put up a fantastic fight on ultra-lite tackle. Two years ago I treated myself to a Greys 5' ultra-lite rod and bought one for my son because I knew he would want mine. Within 5 minutes of first use my son had landed two 5lb plus chub whilst I rowed the boat to keep it steady.

Yesterday evening, Free, unfished, small river. Lucky Strike, Speedia, stick float, size 18 hook, single maggot. Both rod and reel performed impeccably....

Chub? The perfect coarse fish, always hungry, always cautious, and so inedible the poachers wouldn't bother. Always persuadable, but you have to get everything just right. Love 'em.

Wow great fish There Gurn. Is that the Lucky you restored?
Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

It is indeed Loop. I told two people where I intended to fish yesterday, both said,"there's no fish in there". I caught six different species of fish. :chuckle:
