Traditional Complex Flavour Enhancer

Post by Barbulus »

I was reminded yesterday of how one can be both traditional and yet still use complex flavour additives to, hopefully, enhance your fishing......

So for those who do not object to science to aid their fishing bait.....may I suggest they follow the old "Master" himself (Rod Hutchinson) who observed the following characteristics in a complex flavour enhancer where the Amino Acids included "alanine", "aspartic", "lysine", "threonine" and others together with 18.4 mg per 100 g of Vitamin B1 and 3.7 mg per 100 g of Vitamin B2......and a mix of 48 % Protein, 36 % Carbohydate with other Minerals......he was of course referring to a jar of "Marmite"..........I guess you either love it or hate it but it is a b****y good enhancer in liquid form.......

I use it a lot. I boil 1/2 pint of water and dissolve a spoon of Marmite before I add my Pedigree Chum Mixer. I also eat Marmite on toast, yummy :-)

Mmmmm Marmite!
I am lucky enough to do a little work in thier production plant in Burton. Surrounded by the smell, and access to the staff shop!

As you say, plenty of fishes like it too!
Bovril cubes are also worth a try. Unwrap, catapult out and leave to desolve slowly leaking flavour, little feed and a little less messy than marmite.

How about a Bovril cube dunked in marmite!

We went to an excellent and very upmarket restaurant for SHMBO s birthday

one of the 9 (!) courses was a "yeast extract " flavour - "its marmite" the waitress whispered!

I wonder if there is the love/hate scenario of it in the fish world as there seems to be in the human world?

I love it myself and add it to quite a few different meals. Marmite in my beans on toast is a quick simple favourite of mine.

A Google of Umami produces some interesting Marmite related reading.
