Dam. Shouldn't have said anything. I can see it now..... 'bumper catch on elderberrys, new super bait hits the market'!! Think i'll be finding a little pond, some elderberrys and some carp.....!! Great story spot. Rotten luck as well. St.

Re: elderberrys
The water I fished last week had these growing by the waterside. My friend had mentioned to me that he'd had far more success there with red or pink baits, anything to do with these dropping into the water I wonder?

Re: elderberrys
I brought some back from fishing a couple of weeks ago and my Koi carp love them, so I'm sure we could catch on them.

It is the season for the berry. I have used to and caught Roach on them.went out for a walk today and picked a bag full. On the way back to the car feed the roach on the Kennet and Avon canal. They seemed to like them.

Re: elderberrys
I have tried them many times over the years in canals, lakes and rivers having read in various angling books how good they are as bait. I have never had so much as a bite.

Pretty useless bait unless you're feeding in hemp. I much prefer to use tares combined with hemp.

Re: elderberrys
The most success I ever had with elderberries was many years ago where we discovered a bush overhanging the river. Not only did the bush pre-bait for you but for approximately 300 yards downstream you couldn't catch a roach on anything else as they seemed so preoccupied on the berries while the fruit lasted.
I believe that elderberries work so well because they resemble the small black snails that live in the silk weed. Although I've not used them on the rivers for some time these little snails used to be deadly roach baits as, of course, the silk weed itself could be.
