I've been pike fishing for years, Santiago. Like you I rarely use more than one treble. I also favour the float for good bite detection.

As for preferences, mackerel, sardine, sprats, smelt, trout, roach, bream, zander, I have used gudgeon and years ago lamprey & eel, but due to diminished stocks I have stopped....
My club has a ban on using eel, caught from the water or purchased from the shop. :Thumb:

My friend gave me this to try in the pub last night. Anyone use it? I tended to think it was a bit of a gimick.

Well they supposedly have real fish in the brew, so I suppose it makes a change or is easier than injecting fish oils etc, as an attractant ....

I prefer to use natural oils rather than synthetic flavours. Mackerel, smelt, pilchard (very cheap), lamprey, etc

Most, if not all the lamprey, are not from the UK but Canada where they are an invasive species in the Great Lakes and are being eradicated. So I have no problem using them. When 'bloody' a very successful bait.

I made something similar to smear on lures. Vaseline with boiled up juice from less than 1/2 price reduced languistine. Worked a treat and I gave a jar to my brother-in-law. And on a hot summers day he arrived home after a 5h motor way drive to find the lid had come off and the contents had melted and spilled all over his boot. Surprised he didn't smell it whilst driving!!

I prefer to float fish and my favourite baits are Smelt, Lamprey and if I aloud Roach and Eel.
Fish come and go, but it is the memory of afternoons on the stream that endure

Only if they've run out of red wine.

I suspect it could be “love”, despite its drawbacks in the rhyming department.

I'm down the river now. Cannot believe how busy it is for such a cold mid week day in January. Hard to find a swim amongst the other anglers and this weed that refuses to die. It was really bad in the summers but I thought it would be gone by now!

Going to look upstream some more.

Well that's good to know, I`ll check the country of origin when I find it on sale....cheers Olly....
