An evening with Prawns
Thought I would give Prawns a go for some Perch as some of you chaps have had some great results with them. So I grabbed some Sainsburys value Prawns picked up my Avon and Trudex which is loaded with Drennan 3lb float line and off I went to a local farm pond. When I arrived at the pond my heart sank as lined up along the car park bank was 4 bivvies. So it was off to the dam end for some piece and quiet,it started of with a hat full of Rudd then I got a bit of a shock when a double figure Carp picked up my Prawn (so the bivvie boys do have their uses as I had to borrow a unhooking mat). This was followed by my one and only Perch (which wasn't a lot bigger than the prawn) followed by three Tench the best being just over 4 lb male.
Dispite my initial worries it turned out to be a great evenings fishing with some interested parties visiting to look at my old rod. All things said they were a nice bunch of lads.

There are three things that improve with age: wine, friendship and water sense, and there's no short cut.

Nice catch indeed, nice towel.....oops nice perch
Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

A splendidly pleasurable evening by the sound of it. Well done, Sir.

Lovely fish, Harry. I have found prawns a funny bait. On one water I fish they catch work as if the fish want to be caught. On the other hand in another lake they don't work at all! I can be catching well on worms and switch to prawn and it kills the sport dead.
"I'd rather be fishing!"

Well done fella, glad they worked for you. I just been to Aldi to get my prawns for early evening session, i swear by them at the moment, i cant catch on them until light begins to fade, but then the Big perch come out to play.

Wondering when prawns came along as popular bait, I don't remember seeing them used or reading about them up to the mid eighties.
