Chum Mixers.

Post by Caractacus Potts »

I haven't done any surface fishing for carp for a while, however it looks to be on the cards for this Spring, when it eventually stops raining that is !

I seem to remember that the recipe of Chum Mixers had changed a bit (or something like that) and they aren't a patch on what they used to be. Is this right ? And if so, could someone recommend another brand of pet-food floater that floats well ?

Cheers, CP.

Morrison's own brand, 2 quid odd for 4 kilos. I add a flavour.... Or take a kilo, put in bag, get 3-4 oxo cubes crushed up in the bag and shake well. Glm's worked pretty well in't past too..

I've always found that the larger 'unexpanded' expander pellets work as well as anything.

Mark put me onto Baker's meaty meals for small dogs which are dark red coloured rubbery mixer-sized floating dog food.
They are soft enough to hook directly and very bouyant.

I bought some dog treats from one of those bargain stores (bargain buys in Evesham and Wilkos in Darlington) 29p and £1 a bag. They are squidgy and hook or hair rig really easily. I caught 2, 6lb Carp on them when fishing in Evesham.

Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

I've heard it said the current Tesco recipe most closely resembles the original Chum mixer. The Pedigree version seems to have changed and some think they're not as good as they once were. I usually use whatever ones are on the shelf when I run out.
