summer carp bait
summer carp bait
In a few weeks time i have a trip planned to a local carp lake that holds a good head of double figure carp.
As the lake is next to a camp site it gets quite heavily fished and I suspect the carp have seen every colour and size boilie going.
I would like to try a traditional bait that might give me a chance of catching one of the carp so what would you suggest ?

Bread. Either floating or on the bottom.
Very good chance plent goes in via the campers.

I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

Sweetcorn, luncheon meat and bread are my favourites SS.

Don't forget the humble maggot, and perhaps lob worms in the margins.

Re: summer carp bait
It all depends on what other species may be in there SS. If the pool has large stocks of roach, rudd or small bream then an particles introduced will attract hoards of small fish, likewise with bread which will be stripped from the hook in no time. This is why boilies were created in the first place.
If you want to use meat then try frying it first. It toughens it up which stops it being whittled away.

I've found on heavily pressured waters bread to be a fantastic alternative but as said above this can get hammered by smaller species.
Messing around with a slice of white one day I compressed a piece of bread into a square with my fingers really tightly and then hair rigged it and had great results out fishing all the boile boys in the middle of a blazing hot day when nothing else was happening.
Take in mind the bread will swell a bit so mess around with different sized squares.
It will stay on nice for casting and be a lot more resilient than flake.

I know I keep going on about them, but ... fishing on the bottom ... worm scoured in fennel for at least three days before use (as per the advice of Izaak Himself).

Peperami. It will stay on the hook well and is fairly selective. And it gives off a great scent trail. The hot and spicy one!!

Prawns. A king prawn on a size 6 hook will catch carp and big perch.

Re: summer carp bait
Bread is so versatile, try a brown seeded type for a change if white is used a lot. Just recently I have used Prawns with the hope of getting a nice big perch, I have had not one Perch but some lovely Carp, Tench and Bream on the bottom. I am going tomorrow and my main baits will be Bread and Prawns.
