Butter beans!
Are Butter beans a traditional bait ? I really don't know, but a new Angler to our ponds has been using them with devastating effect targeting our Carp.
Much to the annoyance of some of the old timers, last weekend he won our friendly Club match by exclusively baiting up with BB's I can foresee maggot sales in this area going into decline for a short period while they beat a path to the door of Tesco's for their 32p tin of match winners.

Re: Butter beans!
I can remember my Mother feeding me these as a child and I must admit to have been less than keen.
I have heard of them being used for carp along with various other types of bean and pea. I intend to give them a try.

The coiled line travels from the reel, it brings up at last, the hook goes home, and then begins the test of skill. "BB"

Nuts, beans and pulses! An old (70's) carp baits book will tell you all about them!

I love using them, easy to hook, small fish don't seem to be able to break them up, and the ideal size for dog treats on the bank!
Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.
